’Evil’ Proposal to Sell Gaza Land Via Crypto Tokens Sparks Outrage
A controversial plan to tokenize Gaza land sales using blockchain technology has drawn fierce criticism from Palestinian activists. The proposal, developed with input from the Tony Blair Institute and Boston Consulting Group, suggested paying Palestinians to leave their land, then redeveloping the region with Dubai-style artificial islands and blockchain-trade initiatives.
The scheme WOULD have created a trust to hold public land in Gaza, selling digital tokens representing ownership stakes. Gazans could exchange private land for tokens redeemable for housing units. Activists condemned the plan as "grotesque" and "evil," particularly given the timing after Israel's bombings of Gaza.
